Dedicate Chanukkah

Dedicate each night’s Chanukkah candles to specific values.  Light the first Chanukkah candle on Friday, November 29, 2002, before you light the Shabbat candles.

First Day – Family:  The first Chanukkah candle shines for family.  May the light from this candle shed warmth upon my family and bring peace and health to all those whom I love.

Second Day – Community:  These candles shine to brighten the lives of our community.  May the warmth of the light bring us closer together and give us the encouragement to continue to reach outward.  May we strive to care for one another and make our community even more welcoming.

Third Day – America:  These candles burn as a reminder of America’s greatness.  Heroism, patriotism, and liberty shine bright in our hearts and spirit.  May our country continue to stand united in peace and freedom.

Fourth Day – Israel:  May these candles shine with the hope for peace in the land of Israel.  May we soon see the day when Israelis and Palestinians act as dignified neighbors.  May God protect our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael.

Fifth Day – American and Israeli Soldiers:  May the light of these candles bring courage and protection to those fighting for peace.  May the spirit of the Maccabees infuse the soldiers of Israel protecting our homeland and American soldiers fighting for our safety and the world’s security.

Sixth Day - Those Suffering with Illness:  May these candles of healing bring light to those in pain and suffering.  May they be speedily brought to full health, a recovery of body and spirit.  May these candles bring strength and compassion to their families.

Seventh Day – Victims of Terror:  May these candles of remembrance burn forever, reminding us of the beautiful and sacred lives that have been lost from our world.  May the memories of those who have died remain bright in our hearts.

Eighth Day – World:  May the light of these candles bring peace to the world.  May war and bloodshed cease and people join together to replace fear and terror with honesty and generosity.
