Tools of the Trade

Each child will need to bring:

  1. A plastic rectangular dishpan to store pictures and treasures.
  2. A school bag for bringing home notes and your child’s masterpieces.
  3. An art smock; we recommend a plastic apron.  Although plastic tears more easily than cloth, it works best as protection for various activities such as water play and finger painting.
  4. A Kepah.
  5. A picture of your child.
  6. A change of clothing.
  7. Diapers and wet wipes for children not totally toilet trained.

Before each school year, you will be given an updated list of other articles requested by your child’s individual teacher.  Nap supplies are listed in the section Ni-Nite At Noontime.

Please check with our staff to see if your supply of diapers and wet wipes are adequate or need to be restocked.  There is a $1 charge added to your bill for supplying your child with a diaper.

Please be sure to let us know when your child begins the toilet training process so that we can work together.

Playwear is preferable for school.  As we wish the children to feel free to experiment with various media (especially easel paint, finger paint, and clay) without fear of soiling clothes, please encourage them to wear “school clothes.”  Dress clothing, however, may be worn on Friday.  Please label all clothing, especially both shoes.  For younger children, send extra underclothing and slacks in case of accidents.

All outer clothing must be labeled.  When buying winter clothing, please look for self-help features (zippers on snowmobile pant legs, so that shoes don’t have to be taken off before pants are put on).  When purchasing boots, ask the salesperson to let your child put the boots on by him/herself.  A good rule is purchasing the shoe boots or rubbers two sizes larger than shoes.  Remember to mark or label each boot.

Many parents leave an extra pair of tennis shoes in their child’s cubby during the winter so children wearing snowmobile boots need not carry shoes back and forth to school each day.  Clogs, sandals and jellies are not recommended for an active school or camp day.

During the first few weeks of class, children may want the security of having a special teddy, stuffed animal or article of clothing at school.  We’ll do our best to see that he/she returns home with it at the end of the day.

We do not have show-and-tell at school, so please discourage your child from bringing toys along as they can be easily lost or broken.  If, however, you wish to share a special item which would interest all the children or which relates to the current unit, please label it clearly and we’ll take extra care to return it at the end of the period.
