B'nai Emet -> Messages -> From the President -> 2003Happy New YearJanuary, 2003With the New Year just beginning it means we are at the halfway mark in our synagogue year, from both a fiscal perspective and a program viewpoint. It is natural for us to take a mental look at what we have done during the past six months and to look ahead to the next six. I’m not going to try to highlight the many events and activities that have taken place, but I think the beginning of a new year should be a reminder to all of us how quickly time passes. All of us have said “I need to do this, that, or the other thing” or “I will have to do that sometime.” To those of you who have talked or thought about volunteering or getting involved in our synagogue, another year is over or half over, depending on your perspective. Don’t let another opportunity pass you by! As we enter the second half of our programming year, there will be many opportunities to get involved. There will be a number of adult education events, opportunities to work on our inclusion committee, which ultimately has the goal to make B’nai Emet accessible to all, and various fundraising events including our annual Purim Carnival, which is one of our major fundraisers. Speaking of fundraisers, as President of our congregation I am part of a national and international network of synagogue presidents that posts ideas and information on what other synagogues are doing. I am often amazed by how many dollars are raised and programs that are carried out by synagogues that are much smaller than ours. If they can do it, so can we. It just takes a few people to be willing to step forward. As the year 2003 begins, I hope that many of you will join with the many others who are working to make B'nai Emet an even greater synagogue. Best wishes for a healthy and happy 2003.
